To post a new topic, first click on the category where you want it to be published and then click on the “New Topic” button.
Write a subject, chose a topic icon and write your message.
If you want your article to be plain, with no text special effects nor images, then you can just go ahead and click on the submit button at the bottom and you will be done, but if you do want to enhance your content and put some makeover on it, but you just don't know how, then please, keep reading this tutorial.
First of all you need to get familiar with two areas of the forum's interface. The Boardcode and Attachments.
First let's talk about the Boardcode. The upper part of the Boardcode is the area where you find buttons for fonts special effects, paragraph ordering and alignment, tool buttons like quote, code, table, spoiler, hide text from guests; buttons for links, ebay items, videos, maps, preview and help. Below those buttons you will find the smileys section. If you are not sure what a button is for, just roll over the mouse on top of it and you'll see its name. For instance, if you roll over your mouse on top of the B you'll see the word “Bold”. When you want to add a special effect on your text what you need to do first is select the word or paragraph where you want that effect to be applied and then click on the specific button that produces that effect on your Boardcode. Let's imagine I would like to add my text “Little Red Riding Hood - Charles Perrault” the bold and color features. First I would select the text dragging my mouse on top of it, then I would click the on the B and the color icon on my Boardcode, like this:
It would be the same procedure to add any other effect, like alignment, for instance. Select whatever you want to add, text, image, video, etc. and then click on any of the alignment buttons.
Adding Videos
There is a “Video” button
that you can use to insert videos. If you click on it, this is what you see:
You can fill in the information of the video here and then click on “Insert video” or you can just copy and paste the video's URL on your article, like this:
Once you publish your topic you'll see your video displayed on the page.
Adding Links
You can do it two different ways. By clicking on the Link button or just copying and pasting your link directly on the body of your article. Either way will work. I would use the Link button when I want a clickable text, or a text linked to another webpage. So let's say I want to have the text “Click here for the best deals online” linked to eBay.com, I would use the Link button like this:
Previewing your article
If you want to make sure your codes will work fine before you submit your article, you may preview it first by clicking on any of the preview buttons, like this:
Preview Pane Right:
Preview Pane Below:
You can experiment yourself with each one of the buttons to see what effect they will produce and remember you can always insert any of the smileys on your article just by clicking on any of the little faces on the Boardcode.
Adding Images
Last thing for this tutorial. We need to know how to spice up our articles with pictures, otherwise they may look dull and boring, no matter how interesting the topic may be. You have two choices, you can even upload an image from your hard drive, or you can just add the picture's URL to the article.
To insert a picture that you want to upload from your hard drive click on the “Add File” button at the bottom:
Select the picture you want to upload from your hard drive and click on “Open”
Place the cursor where you want the image to be inserted, and then click on the Insert button:
Once you publish your topic the image will be displayed on it.
If you want to add a picture that is hosted somewhere else (on a different website) you may use the Image Link button
. But first you'll need to know the URL of the picture. You can obtain the URL of a picture by right clicking on it and then clicking on “Properties”.
From the Properties window copy the picture's URL like this:
Now click on the Image Link, paste the URL there (no need to enter a size for the image unless you want it to be different than the original), and then click on the “Insert” button, like this:
As you may have noticed, what the button did is it put the image's URL in between the tags
[img]
and
[/img].
You can do this yourself if you don't want to use the button if you can remember this tag. You can also search for images on www.photobucket.com, copy the image code from there like this:
and then paste it on your article. It will work just the same as any of the previews methods mentioned above.
If you have any comments or questions, please, feel free to post them here, and don't forget, practice makes perfect!
